my car sounds like a cricket sometimes when idling
HI,
I've noticed lately that when I'm idling that frequently my car sounds like a cricket. I notice it when i'm driving through the bank - i guess it echos off the walls, but I generally hear it if I have my window open - again, only when I'm idling.
I did a search and someone said it is
*waste gate chatter and HPFP working ( HPFP is a prop shaft driven mechanical fuel pump). Normally you can hear it at low-er RPMS ( under 3500RPM) . Gets very apparent around walls where sound can echo.
Indicative if the N54 design.
The Waste gates articulation arms/valves don't do a good job shutting /seating the flap. So it flutters. Some of the solutions from BMW have only been temporary fixes: Software reprogram , to them being open at low rpm ( Lag) , Replacement ( comes back), replacement with new Turbos ( come back again), Adjustment of arm timing ( helps but come back), new Seat ( comes back).
I don't think I've seen a remedy...**
This response is from this forum but from 2009. I'm curious if anyone has this too, and if it's something I can safely ignore or if I need to have it serviced.
Thoughts?
Thank you for your time and help!! Much appreciated!
Best,
Teri
