BMW has been pushing the green angle with its current 1-Series recently, having fettled the 118d to produce a mere 118g/km of CO2 so it'll sneak into the London Congestion Zone for free next year.
But we've got a feeling that the boys from Bavaria won't be heralding the ecological benefits of this tuned One... despite the fact that it's ostensibly a green car.
This is the V300+, a 1-Series modified by German tuners Hartge to run on liquefied petroleum gas - better known as LPG.
So far, so green. But the V300+ puts out a massive 550bhp, which Hartge reckons should be good for a top speed in excess of 300kmh (186mph) - hence the 300+ name.
It's been built in conjunction with the University of Technology and Economics in Saarbrucken with the aim of breaking the world land-speed record for an LPG-powered production car.
If all goes well, the V300+ could even break the overall LPG speed record, which was set at 315kmh by the IdeeVerte Competition back in 2004.
Whether it succeeds or not, we fear it won't be welcome in the CC zone - despite Hartge's assertion that the V300+ burns cleaner than petrol or diesel.
