My Ride: Alpine White 2006 530Xi (SLD)
So you overpay for an Active Hybrid in hopes that you'll save some fuel while having a few extra horses and some awesome torque... or so you thought.
Check out Inside Line's dyno of Active Hybrid X6 - could be lots of reasons it underperformed factory claims by about 100hp and about 170 lb ft, but really, who cares about those reasons after they already wrote the check and registered their AH X6?
I've actually been kind of excited about KERS making it to production models and the whole Active Hybrid tech, not to mention the gorgeous Teslas (whose IPO, BTW, is probably the worst investment ever). But if the technology keeps falling short and manufacturers keep overstating their outputs (especially, manufacturers like BMW!) - I don't know if I'll stay excited about this "brave new world" much longer. I still think an S2000 with a couple of good mods kicks butt, so who needs a Tesla?
