I do know that you do not discuss E39 here, but I need some help.

I do have some problems with my 530d. It stops when I accel and tend to lower the rpm in regular cruise. If I accel than, it stops again. After starting it, it seems to be working again until it stops again.
Thanks to everybody that post help.

Regards,
Roar

Sounds faulty fuel pump (there is two) or fuel filter. Specially pump is a weak point in e39. I have heard several cases in pre face lift models and sad thing is that faulty memory not necessarily have any record of it.

Fuel pump (as indicated by Skaffa) is a possibility; my E39 535i did something very similar because of a faulty MAF (air mass sensor), but I don't know if a diesel would behave the same way.

You may want to post at BMWland (www.bmwland.co.uk) as well, as there's a lot of E39 experts there.

Take it to the dealer get it connected to the computer.
Some problem in the fuel filter, electric fuel pump ( 2 friends of mine with E39 got new electric pumps during this year) or injection pump (expensive....)

You might want to try http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/index.php as well, lots of E39 owners over there too.
