Refers to the controls accessible to the driver to operate the front passenger seat to assist passenger entry/exit/seating comfort. Lexus LS has had "the gentleman's function" since as early as 2000.

Here is a picture of controls for the Gentleman's Function on a non-BMW:
The driver can operate the front passenger seat controls for the comfort of the front or rear passenger.
My favorite scenarios for the Gentleman's Function:
1) Recline the seat-back for a companion starting to fall asleep
-or-
2) Open door for companion's entry, get seated in driver position, reach over for companion's seat-belt to secure buckle (wink), adjust seat for companion's comfort. What a gentleman!
