It was like a jacked up M3. It had the optional smooth leather interior, but also the hood is very M-like when looking out through the windscreen. Very nice. Very manly. The motor sounds fantastic. Torque is excellent. Really makes the car feel light. Newton's laws have never been so fiercely tested.

I have driven a friend's Cayenne GTS which was incredible for an SUV (soo much better than the Cayenne S they don't even feel like the same car). But the X6 takes the cake by a mile. It's not even close. Within a couple hundred feet you notice that the X6 doesn't even feel like an SUV at all.

Something dawned on me as I was talking with my SA about how few X6s have sold....They use an X5 chassis, so BMW probably doesn't care if they sell many. Look at the lease numbers. they are less attractive than an M car! Maybe as long as BMW sells as many X5s as they need to, X6 sales are simply icing on the cake. If so, it will remain a halo car ($$$). Time will tell.

Happy holidays,

I know wht u mean. my friend did the same comparison but with a FX 50 S. And he told me the X6 5.0 is extremely better.
As much as i like the E60(i have an 05 520i and father an 08 530i), id love to own an X6, but the price is toooo $$$$$, even the second hand X6 3.5L as it was offered to my dad at a high price in exchange to his 08 530i. Its a dream car

The X6's V8 is going to be the new top of the line V8 in standard BMWs for the next few years. 4.4 litre, twin turbo. 400 bhp and 450 ft. lbs of torque. Its in the new 7 series and will be offered in the 5 (presumably the next 6 series as well). Supposedly BMW M greenlighted M versions of the X6 and X5...? Is so, I'd bet a tuned up version of the 4.4 twin turbo will be under the hood of an X5xdrive50iM (LOL! at the ridiculous monikers).

I'll take the GTS just because it's available with a manual gearbox

I don't think I would want to get rid of it that quick, all cars lose value so who cares. If you want an investment buy a house

The new sport auto with paddles is a fine substitute. Even working well on track. I don't miss a manual at all. Well maybe sometimes, certainly don't miss it in traffic.
