My Ride: 545 modded the F out
Default Does anybody have any inside information on X3s (2007 to be exact)

My GF is looking to swap her 2009 VW CC for a new lease and Ive been dying to get her into a BMW. The lot happens to have an 07 Alpine White X3 with 68k miles and I've pretty much talked them all the way down to price matching me the same amount to purchase outright the CC or the X3. Both vehicles will have a 2yr or 24k mile warranty that will cover all power train issues. The X3 looks very well kept in terms of exterior and interior, but it's a bit dated compared to her CC. Kind of at a stalemate. I've read some reviews on edmunds on the X3, which aren't so great, but I've also read tons of things horrible with my own 545 that has been great to me so far. Any help would be much appreciate. Thanks so much. Here's what the car looks like.

Exclamation Considering a used X3

I considered downsizing to an X3 when I bought my '13 535xDrive. The newer models are much improved over the first versions. That said, based on the 3 series certainly lends some additional credibility that they'd be more reliable than other BMW models. I can't tell you from personal experience what a good deal for an '06-'07 would be; pre-owned cars are money makers for car dealers.

And a "warranty" on a used car is a great "selling point" but in fact, most can be purchased in the aftermarket for a few hundred dollars.

Finding a benchmark price on a used BMW can take some work. I can tell you my dealer sells dozens of new cars a month and sold my loaded '07 530xi trade in less than a week ... while two others sat on their lot for more than a month before they ran them to the auction.

IF you have a 'relationship' with a dealer you could ask them to check the auction prices for recent x3's .. that will give you a good point to begin negotiating. You could also check bmwusa.com for used BMW (certified and not certified prices).

Last point - as a current BMW owner I'm sure you've made it a point to have ANY used car inspected by a BMW trained indy or dealer BEFORE signing on the bottom line - ESPECIALLY if it's being sold by another brand's used car lot.

Hey thanks for the reply. Funny you mention those things since I kidna ran down all of those as talking points during our visit today. Yes, we do have a relationship with the dealership as this would be the 4th vehicle we'd be getting from them. When you say "a couple hundred dollars" what does that really entail? I've never purchased a 3rd party warranty before, but have spoken with several e60 owners (M's and non M's) that they usually run from 3k and upwards to 8k. That said, I thought the warranty plan offered for 2k was fair. I could be wrong, but that was just a semi-educated shot in the dark I took.

Because we know each other by first name basis they did in fact go over briefly what they would be going for on auction. Being that the car was in good to excellent condition and in a desirable color the price we were quoted was fair. In fact, I don't think they wouldn't have made any money if we had chosen the x3.
At the end of the day we couldn't make a final decision so we had to let it simmer one more night and look at it again in the morning.

The car will in fact be receiving a complete PPI by a BMW trained mechanic prior to any official commitments made. Thanks for the help.
