If the F10 looks like this  I won't be part of the next generation 5. I think this would be a huge mistake especially to the American car buyer.

The PAS/V5 is a very strange creature indeed. It will look similar to the X6, but will use F10 technology instead. So, BMW will end up with two models similar in shape and size, derived from two different sources.
I'm more than happy to get the benefits from this explained...

To answer the OP's question, I think the article is clear that the F10 will not "look" like the car in this photo -- the picture shows a car built on the F10 platform so the body style can be as different as BMW wants it to be.
I think it's too early to tell what the sales numbers of the X6 will be -- with the fuel prices as high as they are now in the US, I wonder if sales will suffer?

It appers that the new BMW design strategy is to take aspects of existing cars and try and build some sort of hybrid of those into a new car. WTF? How about worrying about making the next 6 series weight less than a freaking Abrams tank instead of trying to build these weird market niche cars with limited upside.

I'm fully aware of that but right now, the US has seen a huge increase in gas prices in recent months -- so much so that more people are now making choices about what vehicle they're buying, etc. Many companies can't even give SUVs away now but just a year ago, they were still selling them like hot cakes...
I was planing chning my 5er for the X6 but now no way.
