Gent,

 I want to get your expert opinion on an 04' M3 convertible. I am ready to purchase in the next couple days. Looking at 2 available Laguna Seca Blue with all options. Does anyone own or know someone own one? I need the pros & cons of it before I committed. Your opinion is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Here's my smart a$$ comment. :D

Pros: It's a M3.

Cons: It's a e46 M3.

A genuine M is worth it, and luckily you'll get it a bit cheaper
when the new 3-series M cab will be on the market - maybe '08!?

Just be sure the care is served and standard!

very tough cars to live with... requires a lot of pampering, especially with the warming up of the engine. Also requires constant oil changes to work at its best..

You can only hope/pray that the break in had been adhered to , otherwise the car might become your worst nightmare.

It used to run very well on 95 octane petrol, but then suddenly seemed to drop power, and only liked the OMV 100 octane, which as you may guess , is very expensive.

Aside from that the power steering on the 03 and 04 cars is prone to lots of defects, so make sure this has been replaced.

Also make sure that the engine has been inspected and fixed by warranty, as some 03 and 04 cars had problems with the fuel delivery.

Also if the car has an smg, try manouvering in reverse, and rotate the steering wheel from one end to the other.. if you hear a whining noise, its trouble. Generally it appers at around 10000-12000miles, and if it doesnt, then you should be ok

Other than that good luck and enjoy

oh and convertibles have a horrible ride, the suspension doesnt handle road imperfections very well

After reading these Car & Drive article I defnitely won't get the current M3. I'll get the 335i Coupe instead, or I'll wait for the 400HP V8 version.

I agree with Blah.

I read in one magazine where they questioned why one would buy a current M3 given how good the 335 was.

IMHO, I would buy a 335 and get a M3 vert one year after it is introduced so to get a decent discount.

I agree. I'd go for a 335i now.

Comming from experience of a competition m3 and a 325 cabrio I think I can give you a better opinion.

Get it. Its fun, its a beast, and laguna is a hot color. When the new m3 comes out then trade that one for it. The 3 convertable was loud at times I will admit...
