My Ride: 535D Sport Auto
Just agreed a sale on a used 3.0d Sport for my wife, its the the one with the Y style 19" wheels. I looked at the spare wheel and it seemed to be the standard SE 17"type. Is this correct or has someone switched the 19" spare wheel.

Hi Merv, good question I guess normally you should have the same size for spares as w the car, but this is used.
I know some w 22" X5 but doubt that they would carry xtra weight in the car.
Also when you have your 19" M wheels you do not order I guess a 5th one...
I will go for 20"s and if s goes wrong then comes the BMW or other garage guess own a flat bed... no reason to carry an xtra tire. Maybe ask your dealer and those rims are cool saw one yesterday in the garage. Nice husband! Mine only car for our e60 and old beetle...

I checked with www.x5world.com and someone told me all X5's have a 17" wheel. 
I think tomorrow I will look in one at a dealers and check. I would have thought as long as the diameter is the same it doesn't matter.

Sure but I guess it was the story that someone ordered the X5 but wanted to go with 19"s (like you do not want 124 but style 166 and you can order the car w any existing wheels) and in that case that is oem, I do not however know for sure if dealer or BWM has to provide him w bigger spare wheel.
The wheels fitted to the car are the standard style 63 as fitted to UK specced sport model. Hopefully I'll know tomorrow. I'm taking a friend to pick up an X3.

I had an X5 sport in 2004 and it had the same wheels as tho one you have. It definitely only had the 17 inch spare wheel. As you say if you have to use it in case of a flat the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre are the same as the 19 inch wheel and tyre.

I have spoken with a friend today who owns an X5 Sport and he has also confirmed his spare is the same as the pic below.
