Well, I didn't expect it to happen so soon, but my 545i will be replaced in 6 month. Here is the official data on the new engine from BMW press release:

750i/Li replacing 745i/Li:
? V8 engine with VALVETRONIC, Double-VANOS, and steplessly-variable intake system.
? Engine thoroughly updated and enhanced.
? Displacement: 4,799 cc (745i/Li was 4,398, + 9 per cent).
? Power: 360 hp at 6,300 rpm (was 325 at 6,100, + 11 per cent).
? Torque: 360 lb-ft at 3,400 rpm (was 330 at 3,600, + 9 per cent).
? 0?60 mph in 5.8 seconds (was 5.9)
? Fuel economy, EPA est. MPG, city/highway: No data.

Will this change make you guys wanna upgrade your 5'er soon?

Doesn't bother me one bit. Time is always marching on, products improved, etc. I leased an E60 for three years, when the lease is up, I'll probably end up with whatever the latest iteration of whatever car I choose to lease at that time.

Speedracer, are you going to unload your 545i for the 7?

When October comes, if someone offers me a good price for me car (bought out), I will considere ED's a 550.

Looking at resale value of a 04 545i, I estimate it to be around 52-54K. I believe it's financially doable to trade in my 545i and pay the difference of about 10K for the 550i.

That averages to be around $833 per month (cost of ownership) which is about the leasing rate for a 545i.

I gotta do some more math regarding this thought.

Too much math makes my head hurt....

I get it now. Since there's no official word on a 550i, your original post implied (to me) that you were going to get a 7 in six months.

If i have 545i, i would upgrade to m5 instead. No point upgrading from a V8 to a V8 again just because of more HP and torque...

Either way wouldn't you rather wait until the New V8 has been out for a couple of years say 2007 model year E60 (9/06 production?) or 2008 (9/07 production)?

Or wait until at least the 2nd model year for the New M5?

Though ED will soften the $$$ hit, sometimes good things come to those who wait.

So now a 750i will be neck and neck to a 04 or 05 545i from 0 to 60mph?

Was 5.9 before... and now 5.8... 5.9 was pretty much neck to neck anyways... not much difference... now lets see who would gain lead in a moving race from 50 to 100 mph!
