looks very similar to a VW Rabbit from the back end... 
I thought that BMW tried this low cost compact market with the development of the 318ti

Well I have to say after buying my wife a 120d m-sport I sold the 535d, it really is that good.
At first I thought the 1 series was overpriced, but after having the 120d and the 535d I realised it was the bargin of the century.
Superb car and I can't wait for the 135i to arrive.
