how about the 535i v 550 discussion all over again....same thing, different model
yes they do, but I still find it flattering to "M" models how they are "benchmark" for some owners in that same model line
***both are great vehicles in their own right, justifying spending or not spending your money on either model is a debate that personal preference should always take precedence

My Ride: 2008 BMW 550i
2006 BMW X3
You know, 4.9 0-60 isn't quite as quick as I thought it would be... I do love the flared wheel wells and the general styling is awesome - first 1er that I really like the looks of unmodified. But with all the hype, just seems like they spent more energy building the hype up, than actually making the car faster... maybe I'm wrong - probably. Just that after the F10 I don't know what to expect anymore
I have no doubt it will be plenty quick and great handling. Just how great is to be seen.

Can't argue with you there
Any mods planned for the M3 yet btw?
Good point

As mentioned, BMW is ALWAYS conservative with their 0-60 ratings. Plus they always make sure the pecking order is preserved. I think the M3 was rated at 4.7?? They can't rate the 1M faster than the M3 but we all know the M3 is faster than 4.7. I've seen a Z4 35i test at 4.3 to 60 yet BMW rates it at 4.9 to 60.
I have no doubt it will be plenty quick and great handling. Just how great is to be seen.
