hey... i just saw ur reply i was away from a couple of weeks from the computer.. anyways i am not a stick shift lover and always prefered automatic transmission.. btw do u think in the coming future i would be able to change the transmission from auto to smg? have u heard about any engine tuning for the 130i? bmw has released the BIturbo for its 3.0 engines.. Do u have any clue if this turbocharger can be added to the normal 3.0 r6 engine the 130i hold?

cheers!!!!

Did the r32 have the DSG gearbox?

This is one area (probably the only one IMO) where audi have got a real advantage. Apparently it was developed originally by Porsche and knocks a few tenths of a sec of the R32's 0-60 time.

If the 130 was manual this is (arguably) not a fair comparison

Personally I'd take the r32 over the 130i and I have a real BMW fixation.

But.. the r32 is a bit of an icon like the old VR6 and I am still a boy racer at heart.

Now if there was an M1 (car not motorway) we might be getting serious.

Ok, so on the last show on top gear (27th) they tested the 130i and Golf V R32. Anyway cutting to the chase they drove both cars on the track. So in the end the 130i came with a time of 1.31,9 and the golf 1.30,smth.
The thing that's striking to me is how come the golf has a better time being 4wd and quite heavier.
130i: R32:
195kw/ 6,600 184kw/ 6300
315NM/ 2,750 320NM/ 2500
1,450 weight 1594

If u pay attention at the stig's run in the bmw i find quite strange the whole lap. Is it just me or he didn't get the best out of that car in the way he drove it. Especially in the end where it shows that he almost took off with the car. That seems to me that the lines/driving style wasn't quite correct.
I dunno maybe it is just me, maybe i'm too bmw freak, but logic from the numbers tells me that the bmw should have been the faster one being rwd (more suited to track conditions) more powerfull, and almost 150 kilos lighter. It's like the golf had 2 more persons in the car and still being faster, assuming that it had the same weight as the bmw.

Any comments?
Here is the torrent in case u need it.

The brutal truth is the R32 is a better car and at 31k the 130i is vastly overpriced and over hyped it's competing in a market it wasn't designed for (hot hatch)

I don't agree with that. I would choose the 130i anytime even though i have never driven either of them. Let me put it this way...IT'S SMTH WRONG with the 130i time. 1 31.9 is 0.1 sec slower than the 535d they tested. So on that basis can you say both cars are equal on a track? A smaller car with yes almoust half the torque but with way less weight and the advantage of the petrol engine...and still it's slower?
Considering also that TG's track is a normal track, not too twisty and not too of a speed track.

Not yet man...i don't know any blowers available for the new 3 liter block. Active Autowerke should be nice to keep an eye on.
