What a choice. I'd go for the 135 assuming its a coupe with the m-sport kit. $40,000 in uk terms is a bargain... that same car (I would like one as they look like tremendous fun) would cost in excess of ?35,000 (70,000USD!!!!)

I'd consider it a bargain...

personally I'd go for the M3 Sedan.. what a beast!
It appears like a bargain to you because currently your dollar is double ours. So your salary to car price ratio is the same as ours or close to it.

I'll give you an example, I have a good friend who was an IT administrator here in the states. The company wanted him to relocate to London and supervise one of the main offices there. He went for six weeks and agreed to take the job on one condition; They match his us dollar to the pound ratio and a little more. They excepted and now he lives in London but when he comes to the states he's loaded... But he says the same thing about the UK that we say about the US, every is so expensive over there.....

Rick..

By the way nice car no I-drive.... at least the one I saw.

i kind of agree with swajames, i remember a test when they did the race head to head, bmw m3 csl, bmw e60 m5, nissan 350z, s2000, rx-8 and the skyline r34 gtr as car cam, and the bmws lead till the final lap when on the final corn♠er the gtr overtook them

On topic: I would go for the 135i and forget about the resale values. This little car is very exquisite and is a pocket rocket that can bite some large chuncks from the M3 or the 550i in certain conditions.

If you think that is bad , Ask about a lease on a 135i... we are talking about 550i / well equiped m3 terratory on monthly payments and down payment...No joke...

BMW is expecting them to depricate like a rock.

I think this is more of introductory financing rates vs established / existing cars. For instance the lease rates in Canada are as follows : 135 Coupe 6.9%
335 Coupe 3.9%
550 ///MSport 2.0%
///M3 7.45%
///M5 3.9%
They're just taking advatage of pent up demand, the rates will drop once the car settles in to a normal sales pattern. This is a pretty standard strategy for BMW , I know it drives the dealers crazy, because often times the lower series ends up more expensive simply as a result of BMW finance rates.
Cheers

No question the 135i will hold its value more than a 3-series.

There is only 10,000 1-series coming to the US and fraction of those are 135i's.

The 135i is priced 5K too high in the US. I chuckle at some on the monthly payments quoted on the 1addicts forum when I pay less due to the lower MF.

Doesn't matter what's on test, it could be a Veyron and and a Ferrari F1 car, but somehow Best Motoring will always find a way to show that the Honda/Acura NSX is quicker!
