Hey guys, new member. I just ordered a Titanium Gray 2006 550i with Sport, Navi, Rear Airbags, M Aero kit w/rear deck spoiler. I'm an big M3 fan, and have driven an e46 M3 for the last three years, and an e36 M3 for a few years before that.

I'm extremely excited to take delivery on the new car and I don't think I'll miss the M3 all that much. I'm curious to hear what former M3 drivers think about the new 550. I almost went with SMG in the 550i, but I heard it didn't quite have the same feel as the M3/M5 SMG.

This is a great forum and I'm happy to be here! I'll post some pics when I get the car. In the meantime, I would love to see some pics of e60s with the M Aero and deck spoiler! Thanks all!

Congratulations!!! My 550 should be here in another 3 wks. What rear deck spoiler did you get? I first had told the dealership to order me the larger spoiler and yesterday I just changed it to the M5 spoiler. Such a big decision!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your order dsi. The 550 is a blast!

Which transmission did you order if not SMG?

The M Kit looks fanstastic. You will probably get the wing-type spoiler (sold as an accesory to the 550). You may want to consider the M5 spoiler.

I recently went from an E36 M3 to an E60 545i. I'm actually still in the process of selling the M3, so I've been driving both back to back. Here's my initial impressions:

- The clutches are very different. M3's is stiffer and has a very linear engagement. The 545i has a dead spot-engagement-deadspot. It takes a some getting used to to get a smooth shift.

- The steering is very different too. M3's was perfect. The 545i (w/ active steering) is much better at slow speeds around town (i.e. parking). In curves at speed it takes a lot of concentration since there does not seem to be "constant" effort level. When I switch back into the M3, it feels like a workout turning the steering wheel at slow speeds. But there is still nothing like hitting the curves in the M3.

- The smoothness of the engine of the 545i is amazing compared to the M3 ... but then again my M3 has 159K on it Its very easy to hit 70-80mph in third gear without even realizing it.

- As far as acceleration goes, it feels like the 545i has better acceleration at the lower RPM's than the M3.

And congrats on your purchase!

Thanks Travelboy, for the info. Oh, and congrats to you dsi. Hope you'll like the car. Is it a daily drive or occassional lux.
