I stumbled into this forum by accident today. My 2008 550i is on the water, but this is not my first BMW: I've owned a 2002tii, three e39 540's, an e39 M5, an e46 330cic, an e46 M3 cab and the the car that drove me away from the fold >> a truly awful 2005 645 coupe. I was so unhappy with the electrical problems on that car I got rid of all my BMWs - everyone of them- and bought a 2005 E55 Mercedes. I have come to my senses and decided to give BMW another chance.
My new 550i:

Carbon Black
Natural Brown leather
Anthracite headliner
Sport Package
6-speed manual
Heated seats
Comfort access
Heads Up display
Navigation
Logic 7
Ipod/USB

Pics to follow when my car arrives - I plan to install Dinan 19" forged wheels.

By the way, my weekend car is a new Porsche Twin Turbo coupe

welcome to the forum and back to bmw...interested to know how you like the 550 vs your previous e-class amg. What part of so cal are you located?

The e55 is going to be sold in the next month. The magnificent supercharged 5.5 liter motor has monster torque (over 500 ft-lbs) and plenty of HP (about 490) but the rest of the car is not up to the standards of the engine. The 8-piston AMG brakes are nice, but the car isn't very satisfying or engaging to drive; for freeway commuting it's fine, but I think the 550 Sport will be more fun to drive and will offer a much better handling car. You can only use 500HP so often, and on our crowded roads and freeways the opportunities to play are becoming less and less. Also, the 5 speed auto trans in the E55 isn't very good - but the Merc car has been reliable which was important to me after the disastrous 645 SMG.
