Newbie Greeting 6-2-2019

Hey all. I'm joining up to try to discover some of the technical secrets of our 2005 BMW 530i Sport (silver). This is my wife's car that we have owned since 2005 as we bought it used with only 7k miles! The original owner near Miami was going through a mid-life crisis and suddenly decided that he wanted a completely different ride - he wanted something Bad! He traded his BMW for a customized, jacked up 2005 Cadillac Escalade with 22" chrome wheels, and a 1500W stereo. The good news is that my wife ended up with a beautiful, classy car that just happens to be an automotive engineering tour de force. Since the car is 14 years young now and has 100k miles, my wife has asked me again and again to help keep her car running properly. This is part of her plan to keep me home instead of going out riding my new BMW R1200GS adventure motorcycle (another technological tour de force) 200 miles per day on and off road in the close-by Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains.

I am a retired electrical engineer, I designed DSP (digital signal processing) hardware and custom software for precision measurement instruments used in the telecommunications field. But on this site, if I cannot find answers via Google, I will likely be asking many of you some service related questions.

I'll update my profile with a few pics of the 530i Sport in a few days to come.

All the Best,

David

:welcome: Yes, we encourage to poke around using the Search function. This site has been here since before your wife's car was born, so I'm sure someone can provide answers to any questions you have.
