Hi All

New guy here. Get my September 2005 525 i M sport tomorrow. Nice low mileage ex demonstrator, so quite a bit of kit in it. A question for UK people really i guess, any recommend chip upgrades for it? Not looking to break the bank , but would welcome any recommendations for a perfomance hike!

Did you but it from a BMW dealer or...?

With the N52 engine?

For a plus 10 hp the chip isn't a good idea.

God help me I'm so new to this!!! My last 5 series was an E39 523, 7 years ago. Company car that I had to give back. Have driven some less than exciting cars since, but decided it was time I got back to "proper" motoring.

yes I guess its the N52. Car is a Septamber 2005 and yes buying from a Dealer!

Any help appreciated!

That's why you are here, on this fine Forum, help you'll get.

Since you bought it from a BMW dealer you will have some kind of warrenty.

You could check out the motor from here.

I guess the "chip" your are talking about is the CIP or the BMW Progman software.

Sorry, hadnt spotted it wasnt a diesel!

There's probably little point "chipping" the 525 petrol as you're not likely to see much gain, Id expect maybe 5-10 HP if you're lucky. Driveability may slightly improve though.

Id see how you get on with it for a while first and then make a decision.

Highest performance enhancements with ECU remapping are derived from engines supported by turbos, hence the "Diesel" comment". If the 535i were available here then that too would benefit even though a petrol engine (because of the twin-turbo architecture).

For normally-aspirated petrol engines - you would need to carefully theink about the costs and respective benefits.

Thats cool guys! Just probably proving that I don't know what i'm talking about!!. We'll really looking forward to getting hold of the sucker tomorrow (god Im 40 but like a little boy on christmas eve!) and will probably be back on in the next few days asking about ipod integration and crowing 'cause my Blackberry Pearls works seamlessly with bluetooth!!

Since the E39 had an MGF & 2 Landrover Freelanders so cant wait for getting back into the groove!

Thanks again

Hi James

Just noted that you also live in the Southampton area - I'll look out for you, but if you get a pair of the e60 forum window stickers or 'clings' you'll be easier to spot!

Mike
