Greetings to all...well I have been lurking here for a long time and have to say it is a very informative forum. I am driving an '02 540 and have just extended my lease to October to take delivery of a new 550. I thought I would join up and at least say thank-you to all the members for all I have already learned about my next BMW! I look forward to the discussions and info exchanges that are all so insightful. Thanks!

I am in the exact same situation with my '02 540 coming off of lease in May.? After doing the obligatory test drive of the RL, A6 4.2, A8, all the? Lexuses, etc. I had zeroed in on the 545, but a few more months to the 550 is too tempting. How long was BMW willing to extend your lease?

Greetings and thanks for the great welcome, I am still learning all the ins and outs of posting. But I wanted to answer the question about extending my lease. My salesman phoned BMW financial services and they said no problem. My dealer will get an allotment for 550s in June and I will place my order at that time. Either for an Oct or november delivery. I have leased 3 other cars as well as refered a friend and my business partner to them, so it appears fairly uncomplicated. The fact that I wanted a 550 and not a 545 was confirmed. My salesman said the new cars will be produced starting in Sept, but did not have the actual SOP date in Sept.
Hope that helps answer some questions!

Not to press the issue, but how long did they extend your lease? Thanks for any guidance!

The last time around, my '01 E39 lease was up in January '04 but I didn't pick up my E60 until mid-April '04. Since the car was ordered well before my lease expired there was no problem extending the lease using the same monthly payments.

OK, the question seems to be, do I have an actual car on order? My dealer is confirming production of 550. BMW FS has OKed extending my lease. In June, BMW will release to my dealer their monthly allotment of 550's for start of '06 production, which begins during the month of Sept (not sure which DAY in Sept right now). My lease is up in June. In June I will pick an alloted car, either for Oct or Nov delivery based on the SOP, or week of production which will determine when my car will be built. So my lease is being extended a minimum of 4, possibly 5 months. When I choose the car off of their allotment I will have a Vin number to lock in my order. That's how I understand it. This was how I orderd my last car too!

My SA also confirmed this...they're wanting a refundable $500 deposit to be placed on the list for the first 4.8L E60's; dealer production slots will be made available around June for cars which will be produced beginning September at the earliest or possibly October....
