Hey guys my name is Nick, I'm a senior at The University of Texas at Austin. I drive a 05 545i and interested in modding it. Anyone know limitations on modding so that I can keep my 100k warranty?

Contact Nerweezy (trinityautosport.com) for mods, and as far as I know, no mods do not affect your warranty unless they cause the failure that brought your car to the dealer (such as rims too big and rubbing). If you are going to mod the electronics try to find removable mods, like Sprint Boosters and such that can be removed easily so that the dealer won't hassle you.

Nick.

I am not a modder so I can't tell you what will and will not void the warranty.

There are some great appearance mods that are very popular with E60.net members, the first of which is the M Tech body kit. A lot of memebers smoke their tails and black out their grille. Many get some sort of rear spoiler. And some (although less) get a spoiler for the roof. Many get new wheels (I personally love the 172s but 167s and 166s style BMW wheels seem to be the most popular and there are about a million kinds of non-BMW wheels that members use). A number of members lower their car (on that topic, the aptly named Praisethelowered has a ton of very helpful posts).

In terms of performance mods, among the popular ones are the RFI hood scoop, the beloved Sprintbooster (the single most popular performance mod among members) and a ECU remap.

There is a lot of good DIY information here. One member who has posted a lot of DIYs is Alpine White Girl.

I would strongly suggest that you use the search function in the upper right hand corner of the page. If you ask a generic question that has a ton of prior threads, some members are going to ask you why you did not first use the search function.

So good luck and welcome to the best forum focused on E60s on the planet.

Welcome to the forum, Nick.

sdg has summed it up nicely of all the popular mods. One thing I'd change is: the scoop, its from RPI (actually there is a group buy going on). Also, many cosmetic mod would not affect the warranty. Performance mods might be different depending on which one. Good luck!

Thanks Xman for catching the typo on RPI. In my profession, RFI is such a common acronym that I put it down on automatic pilot.
