Hello...

My name is Randy, and I've been a BMW owner for about 4 years now... I posted a few times, and I like the attitudes here on your forum, so it's about time I introduced myself, from an automotive point of view.

My first BMW was an '03 325i which I purchased after I was in a car accident, commuting to work in an '01 Mustang Bullitt, which the insurance considered a TVL. My kids complained of the leg room in the back seat, so I purchased my 325i - loved it, and put 50k miles on it until...

About a month ago, driving the same commute, I was rear-ended (again), but this accident was more violent than my previous one - I don't believe that the woman who hit me on the hiway even touched her brakes. I felt like a crash test dummy, being hit from behind hard and then hitting the car in front of me hard - air bag deployment and all. Well, my beloved 325i sacrificed her life to protect mine, and when she came to a rest, I was able to open the door and walk away, with bumps, bruises, scrapes, head-ache, ears (still) ringing, whiplash, however no broken bones. The seat belt, crumple zones and air bag worked exactly as designed.

The insurance considered my 325i a TVL, and there was no question of a doubt that I was going to buy another BMW. However during the past 4 years, my kids grew more (go figure - they do that when you feed them), and they began complaining about the leg room in the back of my 325i, so I knew that my only option was to look at the 5 series. My initial search was for a 530i with specific options, however I found an '05 545i that fit my needs, plus who could deny the joy of the added power, braking, and comfort, so I bought it. I drove her for a week or so, then took her back to the dealer to follow up on some items there were part of the purchase negotiation, plus it gave me time to acquaint myself with her, so that I was able to give the dealer a short list before the 50k warranty expires. I expect her back next week...

My login name (handle) is Cobra 427, because she is my true automotive love. I purchased a Superformance Cobra 4237 SC replica in 2000 and had a local race car fabicator install the drivetrain and numerous other goodies for me, and she was completed for title in 2001. Oh, the joyful memories of "tech bubble" money... For the first few years, I open tracked her with the Nor Cal Shelby Club at Sear's Point and Thunderhill. I'm an active member of the BACC (Bay Area Cobra Club), and I'm a frequent poster on Club Cobra.

Glad to be here,
Randy R...

Randy I recommend you get an extended warranty. There is member on the forum with a 545-2004 who's engine is knocking. BMW wanted to charge him $7000 to fix it because he was out of warranty. Just a word of advise.

Good Luck with the car and congrats.....

Thanks for all of your welcomes!

I'll edit my post (427, not 4327 - ooops!) - I just looked for the edit button - can't find it! I guess I can't edit (oh well). I actually have a 466cui big block putting out about 500hp to the crank - the kick in the pants is the huge amount of torque with such a light weight car (~2600 lbs). I tell people that driving my Cobra is like riding a harley with fours wheels It's a pretty "raw" expereince.

Yes, I bot my '05 545i as a CPO from local BMW dealer here in Fremont. I was also to negotiate the cost of the extended maintenance to match the price offered by TwinKidneyGrill.com, as well, so I'm good for both warranty and service for another 3+ years and 50k+ miles. I also picked up the windsheild warrany, since I went thru one already in my 325i, and there's a lot of road construction on the hiways around here - almost daily my windshield gets hit by a rock/pebble, so I expect this will pay for itself as well.

BWM of Fremont gave me a Nissan Rogue (POS) as a loaner, but I'm not that picky.
