My Ride: 2015 528i
Default I'm new here and a new owner.

Just bought a 2015 528i. I say I bought it but it's my wife's car. It's my first bmw so I'm kinda looking for some dos and donts. I pretty mechanically inclined and prefer to do the work myself. I have noticed that the lingo for these cars is different like f10 ect.. what's that about? Anyways just stopping by to say hi and hoping you guys can point me in the right direction and any help or info is greatly appreciated.

to the forum! Yes, the BMW world is quite unique, as you and your wife will soon discover. You made a smart decision by joining this forum. There are lots of good folks here that will help you solve any issues that you might encounter.

We recommend to all newbies that they read through this thread, especially if you're new to BMWs:
https://5series.net/forums/e60-discu...-begin-148359/

Each generation of the 5 Series has it's own code word. As a 2015 528i owner, you have an E60. F10 was the generation that followed in the years 2011-2016, and the current model is the G30. We have broken out discussions for each generation because the problems and features are usually unique. You can get a good overview here: https://5series.net/forums/. Take some time to look around and feel free to post in the section pertinent to you.

I am sure @JayArras just misspoke thinking it was a 2005 he was typing.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on stepping into the world of BMW. There is a lot of information in this forum and a lot of knowledge.

So e60 is just any 5 series and f10 is what I have? Now the motor is a 2.0 turbo so it's a n20?

Opps! You're right! I misspoke. If yours is a 2015, it is an F10.

Not quite. If you go to https://5series.net/forums/ you'll see that an E60 is a 2004 - 2010 5 Series. The 5 Series line started in 1972 with the E12. BTW, all BMW models have some sort of designation like this.

Oh don't worry about all the Lingo. If you have an F10, then all you need to know is F10. You'll catch on to the rest.
