My Ride: BMW e61 535d m sport
Default Hi everyone , 535d m sport owner here http://forums.5series.net/images/smilies/import

Hi , ive been reading on this site for advice , so it was about time i joined ,

I'm hoping to learn more about my car and ways i could improve it

im averaging about 20/21 mpg on my 2005 e61 535d sport with a range of approx 400 miles on a full tank ,

ive just changed my egr valve/stat after reading advice here because my running temp is around 65 degrees, it has not changed ! and it only got to a max of 95 degrees when i parked up , and then reduced to the high 60s low 70s when i took it for a spin .

according to advice on here i guess i need to change the main thermostat?
should my car really have a running temperatue on the motorway in the high 80 degrees ?

Tbh i dont seem to have any running problems at all as far as i can see apart from worn bushes sqeaking at the rear which should be fixed next week .

Any input at all would be appreciated ,

Cheers

Ive had the bottom rear wishbone ball joint/bush replaced today and the sqeaking has gone !
My local garage could not find the fault after looking at it for hours !!so I called an indy recommended by a friend who told me what the fault was over the phone :-) On top of that ive had a new main Thermostat fitted and "voila" my engine temp is now running at approx 92 degrees . Up from 65 to 71 degrees , ive seen an immediate mpg increase! allthough ill post the figures after my next full tank .
The indy was not aware of the "secret" menu to find running temp until I showed him , so we were both winners at the end of the day :-) .
next job is leaking grease from drive shafts . Rubber cv joints seem fine . But the metal around it is corroded ... any advice people ??
