Hello just introducing myself im Rob, from england currently running a 2007 525d MSport ive had for about 5 weeks now and just got back from Geramny nothing like testing a new car. I have found the forum very useful and look forward to making good use of it, i will take a few more pictures once i have cleaned and polished it and before the winter wheels and rubber goes on but here are a few for now, i have a few slight teething problems,
1.all six glow plugs throw up fault codes on obd scanner, im guessing glow plug control unit?,
2.the car is running to cold doesn't get above 70c (in hidden menu) Evan after mixed driving for 30min, possibly main thermostat? any help on the matter is welcomed.
many thanks Rob

1. That's probable, unless all 6 plugs are on their way out which seems unlikely. I'm not familiar with the OBD codes on plugs but on dealer readouts it's easy to ditinguish whether a plug itself is bad or the fault lies elsewhere.
2. Probably both thermostats to some extent, if you're going to replace/have replaced one of them it is convenient to replace them both anyway. Then you'll be operating at 90 deg. for years.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Welcome to the forums

Actually there is three different thermostat with automatic transmission; Main, EGR and Heat exchanger.

I changed for my ex e60 all of them and then all works perfect. If your car is with manual transmission, I´m not sure is there Heat exchanger, but main and EGR thermostat there surely is.

Hello Milko,

Could you elaborate on the heat exchanger thermostat?

Is this one also related to the infamous 'running-cold' symptom etc.?

Thanks!

I´m not sure is heat exchanger 525d models, but it found at least 530d automatic models.

I changed Main & EGR thermostat and heat was only 75°C, but with new heat exchanger was 89-91°C. So this was the problem maker.

Here is one pic ? heat exchanger is part no 1.

The catalog does show it as installed on 525's as well.

Thanks for the info, never knew that this could cause the infamous low temperatures as well.

Just get here from another thread, my problems are quite similar to yours, so do you need to change the heat exchanger? I mean, if there is no part as thermostat for it itself?
How much did you pay for it?
