Default Back in a 5 series...

Hello everyone! Looks like I'm back in a BMW after about seven years without. I started my love of the my favorite automotive brand with a '78 320i many years ago. Since then, I've had a '93 525i with tons of miles which I really enjoyed, a '95 740i that I also loved with the exception of the nikasil engine liner issue. I also have an '85 K100 bike.

I just made the purchase of my '04 545i this past weekend, and I knew I would love it. Although, I did research what known problems these cars have I'm not really looking forward to doing the work. I am a mechanic and have been for years and know all machines have problem areas. This said I have a question for the well informed and experienced in the N62.

I knew the car had leaks before I even drove three hours to look at it. The car is extremely clean and well cared for with the exception of maintenance follow through. The previous owner had it at the dealer multiple times, but it seems like they never actually fixed anything.

I plan on replacing the valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, timing cover gaskets, alt. bracket seal, coolant pipe in the valley, water pump while I'm there, mechatronic seal, and service the trans. fluid and filter as well. Possibly the valve seals...

Aside from what I've mentioned, can anyone give a quick heads up as to what else I might consider replacing proactively? Thanks everyone and I look forward to the discussions.

Bill
