I just purchased an E60 530xi manual on a whim. My E46 M3 was rear-ended, its been giving me some headaches and I've had it for 5 years, so it was time to take the insurance money and cash it out. I was looking at Audi B8 S4s (very nice car), but the ride wasn't much better than the M3 (NYC streets are particularly bad) and low-mileage examples are north of $35k, so it was hard to justify dropping that much coin on a depreciating asset that I didn't *love* (like the M3). I wanted AWD and manual and better mpg than the M3. I tried a few 335xi's (modded and stock) but the turbo lag was annoying, and down-right dangerous, so that ruled them out. This car was low mileage (56k) and cheap ($13k) and great condition--the Bangle style that I hated when it came out, has now grown on me.The car drove perfectly, and the engine, while low on torque, is very smooth and free revving. I figured it would curb some of my aggressive driving tendencies that I developed driving the M3 for so many years in this town full of other angry drivers, but still be powerful when shifting into the higher rpms.
The ride is significantly better than the M3, and the girlfriend and other passengers much appreciate that!
Now it's time to fix some shortcomings--the car came with almost no options, and damn it I like the toys! Here's the list:

• nav (came without nav, 6" screen) -- I would really like an android system as google maps have the best traffic info, which is critical on my daily commute and pandora, spotify, etc.
• radar + jammers
• heated seats (sport/comfort seats would be nice!)
• some bass
• CDV delete
• roof rack/hitch for bikes and skis (no cold weather package or folding seats)
