Forum dudes, we talked a couple of days ago about having a big meeting and there were some ideas thrown in as to where. I suggested doing it in Germany for the obvious reasons - BMW is here. I wrote to Herr Klaus Hoffmann, and very nice gentleman at the Dingolfing factory (the same gentleman who did our tour last Friday) and this is what he had to say (I've edited it for space reasons):

[COLOR=red]"Now to your questions as to the Worldwide E60 meeting you have in mind.

1. We have the capacity to welcome up to 90 (guests) at once, showing them all together the Multivision Show, afterwards sharing into 3 parties each 30 pax. Starting times for the visit could be either at 8.30 am, 11.00 am or 1.30 pm.

2. BMW Dingolfing Plant management would offer to invite the E60 forum members for a very individual visit to see the birthplace of their car, to watch the production process as near as possible and to have lunch at the canteen after the factory tour or before starting the tour, it depends to the starting time. Because of the limited financial budget, further sponsoring will not be possible, sorry about that, I must hope for your kind understanding!

3. We could make a tour more in depth if wanted or to have some more information about the technology of the car itself. Therefore you should tell us about your concrete interest and questions to find the right specialists for answering all your individual questions.

So please discuss it within your forum to come to a final decision, but remember that we have a lot of groups (in 2004 we've had nearly 40.000 visitors from all over the world) so we need the information from your side about 6 - 7 months in advance if you want to come and to take the offer mentioned above.

Then we would have to block this very date for other groups that day not to be disturbed by other visitors at all. If some of your members would like to come with their E60 BMW we would need a reservation for the parking spaces as well.

Please let me know asap your decision for planning and perhaps booking this event for your forum members.

Looking forward to your answer and wishes to have a nice weekend."
[COLOR=red]

So I think, boys and girls, this would be a premier opportunity to display our cars as well as seeing how they're made. We didn't discuss Munich, but once I see how much interest is out there from all of you, I can breach the subject. Maybe he'd be gracious enough to connect me with someone in Munich as well. We could top the week off with a drive down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen - one of the most beautiful drives there is in our cars.

Some of you guys in Germany, if you have any other suggestions, throw them in as well. I picked those four places because they're all around the same region in Bavaria and they revolve around Dingolfing and Munich.

There's SERIUOUS planning to do, and there would be several hotels involved. I can think of a three-four day fest between Dingolfing, Munich, Garmisch and maybe a drive up to Bad Toelz. That's serious Alps and some of the best scenery anywhere in the world.

I need to see interest out there for me to get involved on this and I would need help. I am not a German speaker - though most Germans speak Englilsh, I would need some support with reservations and such - but that's still way out there, TBD.

Notice he said he needs a 6-7 month notice - that's MONTHS - so we're talking about June-July 06 time frame. I figure we have until around end of December to see if this is doable, get some committment from you folks and I can contact Klaus again to go forward with the meet.

Notice that he said they'd block the plant of other visitors so it'd just be us in that beautiful plant and he talks about more in-depth briefings and if we have specific questions they'd have the brains on hand to talk with us. What an opportunity he's offering!!

Also notice he said 90 people max in three groups of 30. I'd suggest we start a list right here and as you decide to be in the running for this, you add your name and where you're coming from to the list - also if you'll be driving your own car - for those of us here in Europe - so they can arrange for parking at the factory.

Example:

0. Homer Simpson plus two guests - Transylvannia, Romania - No Car
.5 Buggs Bunny plus guest - New Zealand - 545i

THIS IS THE LIST AND I"M # 1 on it.

When it gets close to 90 we can talk again ....

1. Santiago Fonseca - Darmstadt, Germany - 550i
2.
3.
What about E61 owners. Can we participate too. Please let me know.

I just posted this on Attila's thread. I'll add it here so no one misses it.

THIS IS LONG - SORRY, BUT I WANT TO GET A FEW THINGS STRAIGHT WITH Y'ALLS

I didn't realize there was another thread dedicated to this meet. Thanks Attila for all the publicity. We still have time and the numbers are growing, so for those of you - and future readers - who haven't read the entire thread (yeah, it's getting pretty lengthy) here's how I see things about the actual time for the meet:

Come December 30th I will close the list. Now, please be clear on this - I'm NOT dictating or demanding. The reason I need an end date for the sign up is because BMW needs 6 to 7 months to arrange for our tour. THEY are dictating the lead-time.

They host over 50 thousand people a year and it takes that long to get a date. So back to Dec 30th - that date gives us 6 months until June, 7 months to July and 8 months to August for BMW to offer us a timeframe.

I will negotiate with them on a date, but I have to have a day where I tell BMW "OK, I have 30, 40, 60 people signed up. Let's do this". BMW will come back and say, "We can sponsor your meet starting in June - or sometime after". I want to have options for all of us to attend.

At that time I'll get back on the board and post the given timeframe. This is the time of no bullshit for us . We HAVE to agree on a week where everyone who's signed up can make it.

Once all the participants have agreed on a timeframe (we actually have to agree on a DAY as they will not give us more). I expect all the shenigans to last three days for us here - four days max with the rest of the plan. So, once we have a particular week agreed upon, I'll give BMW that and they'll say yes - or no. If yes, we're set, if no, we'll come up with an alternative date - that's why we should have three different weeks to give them - that way WE dictate the timeframe - but within their constraints. I do not want to piss them off. They have agreed to do something nice, something beyond the butt hole tourist's tour. This is a bunch of serious 5-series owners and we'll get to talk to engineers and get a more in depth look at this thing. The normal factory tour has no room for questions and it just keeps you moving all the time and at the end, they deposit you outside the gate and you're done...

Travel: I will not act as a travel guide. You all will have to make your own arrangements for travel and all that. What I will do is research the hotels and make the calls and get them to agree to a good rate for the group - but that'll be after we have a timeframe set by BMW and agreed to by us, and especially, an amount of people set to attend. I need to give the hotels a good number of rooms and a good date 'cause the rates fluctuate very much in the summer months. I will post names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and all that, but you'll have to make your own arrangements.

As far as flights from the US - you guys will have to handle those yourselves as well. Condor is a charter airline operated by Lufthansa and Debbie and I use it exclusively to go back and forth (www.condor.de - Thomas Cook in the US). They have good rates, but they're restrictive as far as flight dates - they only fly Mondays to Europe and Friday back to the US. That'd give you three days on site, but you ass will be dragging because of jet lag.

So - that's it for now. I will update the attendance roster and post it sometime later. I thought it'd be easier to use as a table but it's proven difficult for some of you to manipulate and re-post. I will keep it in my PC and update it off line and announce the numbers weekly - or something.

Ah! Almost forgot, after we're set for Dingolfing, I'll see if I can get a line on BMW AG Munich and we can do that part - museum and all. Then a drive to Garmisch and overnight - maybe go to the Neuschweinstein castle and up to Bad Toelz. The plan would be Dingolfing - overnigh there, Munich the next day, overnight and Garmisch/Neuschweinstein /Bad Toelz the third day, overnight and return to wherever you came from on the fourth day so we're talking three hotel nights, four days of fun.

Again, these are suggestions. Anyone has a better idea, put it out there. I just want to have something to go by.

Last thing - I need suggestions from the Germany guys on an itinerary after Dingolfing.

Regards,

Santiago

I'm interested in coming along. Who's got the "master" list now.

Was interested in bringing the family until I saw that under-14 is not allowed. So, it'll be just me then And my E60. June/July/August is OK.

BTW, I really only have time to scan the "main" forum, so I didn't see this thread until today.

I have a "master list" at home that I'm updating as people sign up. I will post it on a weekly basis. It's proven difficult for people to download the list, update and re-post so just add your name like before and I'll add it to the Excel list.

Today I have: BangleBox_530d, Kent, UK, 530d, June/July/August.

That makes 35 people so far. A month to go so it's good.

For Iceman, yeah, it will be on a weekday - they are closed on weekends, and we won't know an exact day until BMW gives it to us. Stay tuned...

PS. BangleBox_530d - I'm sorry you can't bring your child, but minimum age is a BMW restriction.

That's right the drive is not long, less than 5 hours. Actually upon your suggestion I have visited the Dingolfing plant two weeks ago and the visit was amazing (unfortunately the big press was not working). I have attached two pictures of our visit, I am the one in the middle. I will post more and new pictures of the car soon.
