Forum dudes, we talked a couple of days ago about having a big meeting and there were some ideas thrown in as to where. I suggested doing it in Germany for the obvious reasons - BMW is here. I wrote to Herr Klaus Hoffmann, and very nice gentleman at the Dingolfing factory (the same gentleman who did our tour last Friday) and this is what he had to say (I've edited it for space reasons):

[COLOR=red]"Now to your questions as to the Worldwide E60 meeting you have in mind.

1. We have the capacity to welcome up to 90 (guests) at once, showing them all together the Multivision Show, afterwards sharing into 3 parties each 30 pax. Starting times for the visit could be either at 8.30 am, 11.00 am or 1.30 pm.

2. BMW Dingolfing Plant management would offer to invite the E60 forum members for a very individual visit to see the birthplace of their car, to watch the production process as near as possible and to have lunch at the canteen after the factory tour or before starting the tour, it depends to the starting time. Because of the limited financial budget, further sponsoring will not be possible, sorry about that, I must hope for your kind understanding!

3. We could make a tour more in depth if wanted or to have some more information about the technology of the car itself. Therefore you should tell us about your concrete interest and questions to find the right specialists for answering all your individual questions.

So please discuss it within your forum to come to a final decision, but remember that we have a lot of groups (in 2004 we've had nearly 40.000 visitors from all over the world) so we need the information from your side about 6 - 7 months in advance if you want to come and to take the offer mentioned above.

Then we would have to block this very date for other groups that day not to be disturbed by other visitors at all. If some of your members would like to come with their E60 BMW we would need a reservation for the parking spaces as well.

Please let me know asap your decision for planning and perhaps booking this event for your forum members.

Looking forward to your answer and wishes to have a nice weekend."

So I think, boys and girls, this would be a premier opportunity to display our cars as well as seeing how they're made. We didn't discuss Munich, but once I see how much interest is out there from all of you, I can breach the subject. Maybe he'd be gracious enough to connect me with someone in Munich as well. We could top the week off with a drive down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen - one of the most beautiful drives there is in our cars.

Some of you guys in Germany, if you have any other suggestions, throw them in as well. I picked those four places because they're all around the same region in Bavaria and they revolve around Dingolfing and Munich.

There's SERIUOUS planning to do, and there would be several hotels involved. I can think of a three-four day fest between Dingolfing, Munich, Garmisch and maybe a drive up to Bad Toelz. That's serious Alps and some of the best scenery anywhere in the world.

I need to see interest out there for me to get involved on this and I would need help. I am not a German speaker - though most Germans speak Englilsh, I would need some support with reservations and such - but that's still way out there, TBD.

Notice he said he needs a 6-7 month notice - that's MONTHS - so we're talking about June-July 06 time frame. I figure we have until around end of December to see if this is doable, get some committment from you folks and I can contact Klaus again to go forward with the meet.

Notice that he said they'd block the plant of other visitors so it'd just be us in that beautiful plant and he talks about more in-depth briefings and if we have specific questions they'd have the brains on hand to talk with us. What an opportunity he's offering!!

Also notice he said 90 people max in three groups of 30. I'd suggest we start a list right here and as you decide to be in the running for this, you add your name and where you're coming from to the list - also if you'll be driving your own car - for those of us here in Europe - so they can arrange for parking at the factory.

Example:

0. Homer Simpson plus two guests - Transylvannia, Romania - No Car
.5 Buggs Bunny plus guest - New Zealand - 545i

THIS IS THE LIST AND I"M # 1 on it.

When it gets close to 90 we can talk again ....

1. Santiago Fonseca - Darmstadt, Germany - 550i
2. Bruce W. Holleman Darmstadt Germany 2006 M5 Carbon Black
3.

Got you.

OK forum dudes, here's the deal:

I'm going to set up the meet at the plant for the 19th of July. You all need to arrive on the 18th or sooner.

BMW recommends that the group be NOT BIGGER than 60 people. As soon as we get there I'll have to close the sign up list and we'll go into stand by.

I'm going to reserve a block of rooms at the Lindner Hotel Kaiserhof in Landshut - 35 KM from the plant for the 18th and the 19th. This hotel is the best I've found. They have many rooms so we can all stay at the same place; they have underground, video-monitored parking (10 Euro per day) and they have facilities big enough to accomodate a large group. The rates are 115.00 euro per day single and 146.00 Euro per day double. Some of you guys coming in alone may want to consider sharing a room or go for a single room. I'm attaching the hotel's offer here (pdf file)

ALL the other hotels in the area are either smaller and have NO parking but "across the street", or have no conference rooms to let.

The hotel will set up a private conference room for us on Tuesday, July 18th from 16:00 until 21:00 for our "welcome party" We can have it catered, or we can eat elsewhere. We'll have to decide. We have time for that.

The cost of any additional ammenities will be shared amongst all attendees. We can have the room also on Wednesday, but if we chose to go out and visit the town, we'll waste the room and the cost. I think Tuesday afternoon/evening is enough for the private room. I'm sure on Wednesday evening we'll all be in the garage instead

Also, the hotel offeres us a tour of Landshut on the afternoon after the plant visit. That'd be something nice to do as a group - but we can decide later. It costs 70 Euro for one hour or 85 Euro for two hours with a guide and 30 participants each. Check out the the Lindner Hotel Kaiserhof at http://www.lindner.de/en/index_html.

I am also waiting on word from BMW Munich. We may have a tour there as well on Thursday. I'll have to find accomodations for that as well. Friday would be the last day. We can tour Garmisch - or whatever and then go home from there. Those of you wishing to stay longer can see about Friday night accomodations.

The Lindner Hotel Kaiserhof will give me a closing date. If you haven't reserved a room by that date, you'll have to find your own place because they'll unblock the remaining rooms and make them available to the general public. I've asked them to block the rooms under "E60.net group", so give them that when you make your reservation.

And on that note - I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year.

Sincerely

Santiago

Santiago,

Quick question. Looking at Airfares to arrive in Munich. Debating on whether to fly in the 14th, and spend a long weekend before the meet, flying out the 22nd. Or fly on the 17th and flying out the 24th. Spending the long weekend, after the meet.

The question I need answered is do you have a feeling on what activities would be group related after the initial meet and tour? You mentioned BMW Munich Tour on Thursday, with everyone going home on Friday.

This may be a question for the e60'ers from the US. When do you plan on arriving in Germany? I want to spend some time with the group, as well as do some sightseeing on my own, or with those that want to do that. Will be bringing my wife and we will most likely rent an e60, if we decide to rent a car.

Sorry about the rambling. Being that I haven't been to Europe since 4 weeks in 1981, I was 16, I am sure much has changed.

If you can't answer this, that is OK.
