actually, I don't have a V1, maybe I shouldn't lead
I heard the new Escort is pretty good. But V1 all the way!
Group leaders must have a V1 or radar detector with Ka. I guess Ill volunteer

Would it make sense for all ride participants to have some sort of 'master list' of fellow riders, so we can recognize and contact each other that day if needed? (Compatible walkie-talkie communications may be iffy...) I'm thinking such a list might include: first name, cell #, vehicle type/color, and last 3 digits of license plate. Whadaya think?
Driving with a cell phone is not a good idea, especially if you are riding alone like me. I think driving with a cell phone is illegal in CA this year?? Anyways, Two way radio on the same frequency would be ideal bc everyone could be connected. Thats why I proposed groups so that the leader of each group will tell their respective following cars if there is any cops ahead (radar) and to keep everyone together in the group.
This is just a suggestion. I will go over this again at the LA meet place. I have been to previous meets and we have lost members due to speeding, traffic, or stop lights. Although we will be split into groups, we will all be around each other. If you have any questions or don't understand what I'm trying to say, pm me and we can talk this over on the phone.

Yep, 2-Way radios are the best bet. There should be no compatability issues as long as the channels are set correctly; even between different brands. You can just use the date of the event so 3 as the main channel and 8 as the subchannel. I'll have the NorCal group on the same Channel so we can pick up each other once we're in the vicinity of the meet point.
