I was recently listening to this video of a large caravan of M's leaving for MFest4. It's really interesting to hear all the different sounds of the exhausts from all the different models, especially under load.

I must admit the E60 M5 sounds amazing compared to everything else (OK, I might be a little biased).

I have to say that most of the E46 M3's have a really tinny sound to them. Not good. However, the E92 M3's have a great sound -- very similar to the E39 M5's.

(Although 10 minutes long, it allows you to hear many varieties in one clip. Good stuff.)

+1 e60 M5 is the best sounding BMW at the moment. That video is probably 50% of what it sounds like in real person.
