Definitely, yes, the Step is far superior in the earlier gears. Check the write ups a few pages into the Straight-Line Performance link linked in my sig. I can't remember the post number to start with, but the discussion starts pretty early on the thread as I recall. It will be easy to find.

Edit: Start with post #11.
Hard evidence from last night/this morning proves the STEP 550 is the fastest.

I had two runs against Brian, first run I was in front because of communication issues, then second run he pulled away, but no more than a 1/2 car length when I killed the throttle, can you confirm that Brian? Don't remember much, I was out of it.

Step has the advantage of always being in the right gear with pretty much error free shifts, but in terms of fun to drive, you can't beat a manual.

I've done similar runs while driving a SMG m3, and the experience is just not the same. Getting clean, quick shifts at redline with a manual transmission makes the whole thing much more rewarding and fun.

When brian1225 and hollywoodtrash ran against one another, hollywoodtrash was at a disadvantage. brian1225 has the 167s which are pretty light wheels vs hollywood's Radenergie R10s. Brian1225 was also running at 1/4 tank while hollywood was at 1/2. Combine the two together hollywood was probably about 100 lbs more. I think this is part of the reason brian1225 pulled a little bit in 4th.

Regarding iceman316's results it can be argued that he too was carrying too much weight. His wheels and bass enclosure in the trunk put him at a weight disadvantage. I still think that his exhaust though is the primary culprit for his disappointing runs.

As a result of the morning's runs my next bimmer (4.4 V8 biturbo) will be a Step.

Good run guys, sorry I left a little early, couldn't keep my eyes open. I even missed the 405 transition on the way back, threw an extra 10 miles on a detour

I don't know if the CLS was trying or not, I don't think he heard my honks, but it was no competition. Who else ran the CLS? I can't remember
Brian your slushbox is a winner!
Your head must really be in a fog today. I ran the CLS too. Beat him twice. I'm just glad that William didn't show up with his Porsche Turbo.

Based on this morning's results, the order of transmission is 1. Step, 2. 6speed, and 3. SMG.

See.... you shouldn't have missed out! I'm betting his 550 will walk your IS 350. He's not going to be at the Socal Meet Sept 23rd so we're going to have to arrange some other time to do some more runs.
