I just spent nearly a week in BMW heaven.
First we had a small group that met in Robbinsville, NC for some scenic mountain drives. There were two new M6 verts and a new 135i in attendance, along with a 645ci (board member CobraDave), an E46 M3, and my 550i. We got in 10 runs on the Tail of the Dragon, 318 turns in 11 miles. Four were clean runs with zero traffic. Most of the time you catch traffic and it takes twice the time (or longer) for the 11 miles. Let me just say the 550i does quite well, no matter how tight the twisties. I definitely learned the fine line of throttle control and tire adhesion. I guess practicing thru 3180 turns makes perfect...... Saturday, we joined the Vintage at the Vineyards at Shelton Vineyards which had 300+ classic BMWs, from 2002s to e28 5ers. There was an M1, an original '30ish 328, and a new Z4 seen at the show. Part 4:
More Vintage at the Vineyard. The drives were great, the people great, and the weather great. Well, except for the last 15 minutes of the awards presentation. The rain started to pour and we crammed 100 people in the hosts garage....
