Infiniti M35 or M45. closest company right now to what BMW offers. MB is nice ya but to many quality problems.
I have to agree. Before buying my 545i, I was leaning heavily towards a benz (prob e500) - the S500 is still my dream car - can't afford it, but what the heck, I can dream, can't i??!!. But with all the quality problems they have been having, I decided not to buy the e500. Now I am hooked on bimmers!!
My distant second choice is Lexus

Mercedes S-class give big discount now. Over $10,000+ in saving. You can probably get a new S350 cheaper than 545/550.
I probably will still pick e60, becuase the new S class is coming out in Feb of 2006.

If BMW did not exist, I would opt for an S4 given its handling and well designed interior/exterior or the new S8 (mid-2006?) for the same reasons - although the S8 will be pricey at $110K. The A6 4.2 does not make the cut given its uninspiring handling (maybe when the S6 or RS6 comes).
Yes, I realize the C55 and E55 are faster as vnod has pointed out. However, unless you drive an Enzo, you become accustomed to the horsepower, always wanting more (I'm at that stage with my 545 ). On the other hand, great handling never gets old and great interior/exterior style will keep you smiling every time you walk toward the car or sit in it and Mercedes falls short on both counts IMHO, plus MB's reliability is horrific.
Just my $0.02.

My Ride: 335i Sedan
if Bmw didn't exist, I would just get the Audi A8 or go the the new range rover sport but If i were to stay in class size, I would get the new GS430 I actually like the outside but I hate the interior design.

i would never get a Japanese car, Audi is out - i still see them as fluffed up VW. Lexus is still Japanese in my book - they are trying but still not there yet - product or branding wise.

My Ride: 2006 550i SMG
A year and a half ago I wanted the Cad CTS-V but I couldn't get my wife to go with me to a Caddy dealer and ended up with the 330i. This year I wanted to at least try out the STS-V but again my wife refused to go...said I'm too young to drive a Caddy. I'm not mad at her though, cause she talked me into the 550i.
