Carnaval is a thing they celebrate in the south of Holland. The dividing line is two large rivers dividing the country in two. My ancestors from the northern part have fought succesfully for generations to keep carnaval below the rivers.
It's nothing like Rio. It involves simplistic singalong music, conga lines, A LOT of beer drinking and, as a consequense, shagging your next door neighbour.

alaaf!

You're right Fred (he's poking me to provoke)

Actually the dividing line are the rivers, the main thing is historical. In the South Catholics are a majority and Carnaval can be considered as a Roman Catholic "party" to prepare yourself for being sober untill Easter.

But shagging your neighbour? My neighbours wife died couple of years ago
But what's wrong with drinking beer?

To speak with the words of the brilliant Hans Dorrestijn:

If it was up to me it would be forbidden, but who am I to deny the mentally challenged their pleasures..

Now I always thought this was Carnival....
Missed it this year - normally in Receife, Brasil. Could only watch about 90 hours this past week end, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on TV
