The crazy thing is he was so far ahead, he let up with 15 meters to go. He could have gone faster.

I calculated an average of 23mph. He certainly was faster than that the second half of the race.
Most cars (if floored) should pass him in the 100m but some would be well down the track before they do.

I think swimming and gymnastics are "real" Oympic sports as well.
Yes, I agree.

The worst thing these days is that soo many atheletes use doping of some sort, it makes you wonder what he is on to be so much better, or Michael Phelps, or the beach volleyball team, or others. Or is it that they are such unique persons genetically, they truely are superior, once training, etc is added in? Usain Bolt sure looks like he was built for speed as Michael Phelps is for swimming or Lance Armstrong was for biking.

His height gives him long legs and a long stride and he can sure motor those legs.

Jamaica sweeps women's 100m Shelly-Ann Fraser wins one night after countryman Usain Bolt

BEIJING - Shelly-Ann Fraser completed a gold-medal Jamaican sweep of the 100-meter dashes at the Olympics on Sunday, winning the women's race in 10.78 seconds. Teammates Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart tied for second.
Fraser's victory came a day after Usain Bolt gave Jamaica the men's title in world-record time.
As extensive a tradition of stellar sprinting as Jamaica has, the Caribbean island of about 2.8 million people never had won an Olympic gold in the 100 until this weekend.
Fraser won easily, punching the air as she crossed the finish line. Like Bolt, she is 21 years old.
The scoreboard flashed "Photo-Finish" for a couple of minutes before finally showing that Simpson and Stewart were both timed in 10.98 - and were both credited with finishing second.
Lauryn Williams and Muna Lee of the United States were fourth and fifth. Torri Edwards of the U.S. finished eighth.
