If it broke without you affecting it in any way, shape or form, I can think of a couple of reasons this happened.
1. Whoever installed the glass, did so without bothering to make sure that all the grooves are lined up perfectly, resulting in a slight curve in the glass panel after installation. That could've stressed the glass over time to the point of breaking.
2. The glass could have been defective and just burst from a fluctuation in temperature, i.e. someone took a hot shower/bath there and then opened the door, colder air got, a crack formed and eventually caused the glass to break.
3. Someone may have damaged the glass and it had small crack that was getting worse gradually over time.
Sure glad to see you are okay though and hope they take care of you for this one - whatever the reason, this should never happen.
