Purely on looks I reckon the SL beats anything BMW is making right now. Really looks like a cracker.

I want one and I don't really care if goes round a bend as well as an M5 or whatever !! SL350 is a serious consideration for me in a years time when I plan on doing a car rejig. Would love a SL500 but its just too expensive for me.

I test drove an SL500 and was not so impressed... the torque on that (lesser) model was insufficient esp. in lower gears... taking off from a stop was ho-hum.
For 2007, the base SL becomes the SL550 (same engine as the new S550)......combined with a 7spd auto.

That's going to take care of any power issues that the SL500 had.

I'm puzzled as to how an AMG anything can feel fat and lazy. But then, on a wet freeway, anything is going to be chancey, especially if it aint yours.

I once considered and drove the early 320 CLK coupe, and was amazed to find that all it had to offer for added sport were the wheels and tires; NOTHING in suspension or brakes, and of course, automatic. No thanks. But that's MB; the sport side is undernourished; but then, how many trophy wives will ever know on the way to ladies day at the golf club?

Sorry, but it's sad if even their AMG models fall prey to being "seen" rather than being "driven." I'm probably overstating this out of ignorance, but, frankly, my dear, I don't care.

On the flip side, BMW can't hold a candle to them on depreciation/trade-in values though.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

HOT! I'll take a SL65 over a 550. Can I test drive it? Think your friend will mind?

Do you think they will call it SL550? Since the new 5461cc 388HP S-class is still named S500.
