Life is precious, no doubt. Watching these images, one can't help but wish things like this never happened.

I personally - rather than looking at this as if "there's nothing we can do about it" - try to draw experience from each piece of information I see/hear and attempt to use any and all knowledge I receive to prepare for the future.

Saddest thing about it is, there's probably a better way to deal with such disasters, where we could be more prepared for when the storm comes and to deal with the aftermath. Unfortunately, many people today are adopting this philosophy of "there's nothing I can do to help it, so I might as well live life to the fullest now and not think about the future", and taking it to the extreme. While I believe that living is basically about being happy, it is also about survival. And survival of a human - as opposed to an animal - is not reliant on instincts, but rather on rational thought. By that I mean that I have to be prepared to protect myself and my family to the fullest of my ability. That's the kind of lesson I personally draw from looking at this. Perhaps, I'm not alone in thinking this way... or maybe I'm just the last scout :(

This typhoon wiped out almost a whole village in Taiwan.
The remaining survivors are blaming the government for not taking protective measures in advance.

I remember in high school, my business teacher told us that : "We should always think and act proactive."
If we stay passive, we're still gonna have to deal with the storm and its aftermath.

You're not the lone scout here.
But then again, thinking and acting are two independent identities.
Just like one's attitude versus his or her behavior on any specific issue.
