Forget France, go to Tuscany. You'll love it.

San Gimignano and the surrounding area is lovely. The food is excellent. Then do a two day trip to the island of Elba. Just drive your car on the ferry for a one-hour crossing.

Just my two eurocents

Most respectable.? How many miles did you put on the car?? You must have been going a pretty good clip most of the time.? No construction traffic jams I guess - they're brutal.

We drove 2040 miles between delivery and drop off.
Actually we only had one bad traffic Jam on the way to Florence. Truck accident in a tunnel

Below are shots of the NAV showing the relatively short drive times.
This one was taken after a gas stop around Bolgna just before the traffic jam

This one shows a 3 hour drive to Rome from Florence. I remember us checking in to the hotel around 4pm. The Navigation was flawless. Of course we would stop occasionally and enjoy the Tuscan heat.

Our drive to Pisa after spending the morning on the beach with the locals at Plombino, only an hour.

Pisa to Nice was also just 3 hours. We were in Nice for a late lunch.

Our Drive to Barcelona from Nice was broken by a night stop at AIX. We made it back to Nice after an early morning departure in time for lunch and to drop the car of at the E.H. Harms loaction at the airport. The last drive was tiring but very swift with speeds mostly exceeding 100mph. We would have made it more leisurely had it not been for a 4pm deadline to drop the car off. E.H. Harms is not open on weekends.

Love Monaco and Nice. Look forward to going back some day. I went there for a week as a reward trip for a company I worked for. I enjoyed Nice a lot, as some have said, Monte Carlo is an experience (you will see the nicest cars in the world), but it is very SMALL. Nice has similar atmosphere but there is just more to do. Eze is a nice day trip, along with the castle. Visit Monte Carlo for the beach and casinos, and then enjoy some nightlife in Nice. Cannes is another nice day trip. We did a quaint cooking school in Moguins that was enjoyable. I would avoid San Remos, a fancy Tijuana if you ask me. I bought a nice leather bag from there but it wasn't worth a day of my time.

Enjoy yourself! BTW, bring your Visa and avoid the nightclubs in Monte Carlo. Even when the Euro was priced better a bottle of Dom Perignon was $1000 USD and a heineken was like $20.

Cool. I made my wife puke once on the Costa Brava (North of Barcelona) - very twisty.

I travel quite a bit. www.tripadvisor.com is AWESOME. Lots of useful advice from actual people like us. Check it out.

We spent the month of October, 2004 in Europe- unfortunately without our BMWs.

A few suggestions-

In Nice - try the Negresco- very expensive, but a fantastic old hotel, exotically decorated - you have to see it! - http://www.hotel-negresco-nice.com

In Florence - J.K. Place - Fantastic elegant small hotel - unbelievable service! - http://www.jkplace.com

In Barcelona - Hotel Neri - Also a small wonderful hotel - located in in the heart of the Gothic Quarter - short walks to Las Ramblas and Catalunya Square. - http://www.hotelneri.com

And yes - tripadvisor.com is excellent - http://www.tripadvisor.com
