ONGEVAL OP A15 17-06-2004 VUREN - Vanochtend vond een ongeval plaats op de A15. Een 27-jarige man uit Den Hoorn reed met zijn auto, na een volgens getuigen te agressieve inhaalmanoeuvre, achter tegen een vrachtwagen aan,die met pech langs de kant stond. De auto kwam onder de vrachtwagen terecht en vloog in brand. Dit brandje werd door een andere vrachtwagenchauffeur direct geblust. De 27-jarige raakte bekneld in zijn auto en moest door de brandweer bevrijd worden. Hij werd met onbekend letsel overgebracht naar het ziekenhuis in Utrecht.

Some of the text isn't correct. The police is still investigating what happened. I talked to the truckdriver I overtook and he says I didn't do anything aggresive. The only thing he has seen is my car skidding while I passed him. It is also strange that my right rear tire was flat after the accident and the sides of the tire were damaged and looked like I drove on them.

The truckdrive I overtook is the same guy that extinghuished the fire in my car. In an hour I have an appointment with the truckdriver to thank him for saving my life. He also has a trauma from seeing the accident. We hope by meeting with each other we can start giving it a place in our lives.

For me the problem is that I cannot remember what happened exactly that day. Due to the crash my mind is very blurry and the only thing I can remember is passing a truck and the following moment my car is skidding at the back. I can remember it caught me complete by surprise.

I hope the truckdriver can give me some more info today.

Did your car have run flats, or just the standard 3 series 17 or 18" wheels?

 

Standard 18 inch wheels with michelin pilot sport 2 tires. So no run flats. 4 weeks ago I had a bolt in my right rear tire. The tire was repaired bij a wheelshop. I am gonna call the police tomorrow to ask them if they can investigate the right rear tire again to see why it was flat and if it has anything to do with the repair to the tire.

I met the truckdriver today. He couldn't tell me much more than I already new. The only thing he saw was me skidding all over the place. He did tell me if I hadn't hit the truck I probably would have gotten control back over the car. But we'll never know.

 

Hello.. The reason I asked was that a customer of mine from Paderborn (Germany) lost control of his E39 (doing aprox 220KM) on the A44 from Dortmund several years ago. The car was entirely uncontrolable he spun about 7 times, hit the center rail, bounced into the slow lane... That was it the car was toast.

He got clear of the car... Police showed up 5 or 6 mins later... Police walked him (he was OK, shook up quite a bit) quite a distance in front of the car as the fear was the car would get hit by another vehicle at high speed. (it had just turned dark.)... They had to wait aprox 30 mins for a rescue crew to block the slow lane on the highway.

His car was written off. This was well before run flats were part of the picture (although they to have a chance of major failure - though slim). The results came out as a defective manufacture of the tire. Sorry no more details as I've lost contact with the person....
