Part3:

I want to highlight the C63 in the review doesn't have the LSD, that is available at the order as part of the "Performance Pack" .

A very nice post! Thanks AlexFW.

So, which would you want?

I'm an M3 guy myself... The only reason I went with an E60 is I have kids.

The 545i with the 6.2 by MB :D (that is even 60 Kg lighter than my N62 - unbelievable but true) .

The M3 is too small for my taste .

Anthony517 12-25-2007 12:52 PM

hahahahah he said M3 owners have no friends. I would def take the M3 over the C62 or 63 lol

I like how you think, the driving dynamics of a BMW and the 6.2 lt. AMG torque monster.

As for the C63 v. M3 v. RS4, I will take the C63, can't pass up the 3.9 sec 0-60, that would be one fast daily driver. If I was planning on tracking the car on a consistent basis, I would take the M3.

Doc Horror 12-26-2007 12:22 AM

I missed that show.
When is the replay, normally it is on wednesday, but not this time (probabely due to Christmas).

I would definately choose the M3, or even better the M3 with the V10 M5/M6 engine

For those who find the M3 too small, get the M6!

FOR EVERYBODY: MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

THE M3 all the WAAAAY!

Hahaha even Clarkson power freak admited in the end (or sort of) that the M3 is the clear winner of them all. HE called copies the others and in truth i don't even see what the merc is all about. I mean ok it has a 6.2 or .3 liter engine :P but it produces like what only 30 more hp than the best engine of them all?! I mean with 2.2 liters more or .3 :P :P how much of an argument is that. Even the torque is not a wow thing. It still is a big V8....for us Europeans at least... and despite all that it was how many seconds slower than the less powerfull bmw?!

The Audi doesn't even count in imho. The ridiculously understeer shown also in the video says it all.

So M3 is a no brainer solution + it looks the best and + it has a nice ass unlike the merc c class whitch looks rubish.

FYI, the 6.2 liter engine in the C63 is detuned. It's potential is 514 hp and 465 lb ft torque. AMG can't have a C class more powerful than the E, S, SL, CL, CLS.

A friend of mine is getting the C63 and he would like to bring it to 500 HP THEN tune it : do you know if is it doable ?
Which are the differences between the two engines ?

vegastrashed 12-27-2007 10:35 AM

New map for the ECU, free flow exhaust, and air intake should get the C63 back to 500 hp.

info@trinityautosport 12-27-2007 10:59 AM

just watched it right now. first full top gear episode ive seen. but yeah i would go for the M3 as well.

Its really not that simple, horsepower is derived from torque and rpm. More horsepower can come about in two ways, make more torque, or make torque at a higher rpm. The two engines use completely different philosophies to create horsepower, neither one being a better way. The AMG power plant uses a larger displacement to create more torque, torque is a product of displacement and efficiency, thats why it has almost 150 lbs-ft more torque. The M3 V8 uses high revs or rpms to create its horsepower, you have to ring out the engine to get to the power band (8,300rpm). Most would say the AMG is more suited for normal daily driving since the peak power is available at lower rpms, and the M3 V8 is more suited for the track where the driver has to keep the revs up to stay in the power band. The Z06 LS7 is a great example of using displacement to create more torque and then more horsepower. The LS7 is a 7.0 liter, which creates 500hp at 6,200rpm and 475tq at 4,800rpm. And the best thing is the LS7 is lighter than the M3 V8.

And like VT said, this is a detuned version of the AMG 6.2, the biggest output is seen in the CL63 and S63 they produce 518hp. The 6.2’s are phenomenal power plants.

As always, that was fun to watch. The YouTube links will likely die out due to copyright issues so if you haven't seen them yet, hurry up and watch them..

Also, for those in the USA that aren't aware, older Top Gear episodes can be seen on BBC America...they're always very well done and top notch.

The best place to watch Top Gear is http://www.finalgear.com/, you can download every episode from Top Gear and Fifth Gear using Torrent. They post the episodes only hours after they air in Europe. This last season of Top Gear was great, now they are on a break until May. Fifth Gear starts up again January 21.
