"The Associated Press (CNN) reported that a car plowed into a weekend bicycle race along a highway near the US-Mexico (MONTERREY) border, killing one and wounding 10 others, police said.

The 28-year-old driver was apparently drunk and fell asleep when he crashed in the race, said police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez. A photo taken by an official of the city showed cyclists and equipment launched high into the air by the collision.

Rodriguez said Juan Campos was charged with murder Alejandro Alvarez, 37, of Monterrey. Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes in the 34 kilometers (21 miles) race Sunday along a road between Baghdad and Playa Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.
Campos said he is a U.S. citizen living in Brownsville. The USA Consulate could not immediately confirm that."

As a cyclist I find this picture disgusting. It has made the rounds on the cycling boards I frequent. I can't tell you how many "fly-by's" I get while out riding. Obnoxious people that like to scream and honk at you while coming by you at 50 MPH and four inches off your handlebars! If it isn't the fly bys, you get pelted with stuff thrown out of their cars. (I had three ribs broken with a full beer bottle once!) Or you have your "manhood" questioned because you are in cycling gear (I love that one.) I chase down as many as I can and I have had words with many. I find it funny how many "men" won't get out of their car and lose their toughness when you catch them. (So many people are brave when wrapped in 3000lbs of steel). I always ask them to let me stand and swing a 36 inch bat as hard as I can within a couple of inches of their head to see how they like it. Nobody ever takes that offer. Sorry for the rant but people in cars have to understand if you make one mistake while passing me within inches it can cost me my life.

There is also a 14 year old boy that was in critical condition from the accident in the posted picture.
