My wife and I will be in Sydney at the end of February for a week on a much needed holiday (the rest of the time wine tasting and diving).
We are looking for a great hotel that is next to cafe's, restruarants and pubs yet still hopefully walking distancing to all the things one needs to see in Sydney (Opera House, the bridge, etc).
We would like to spend between 175 and 225 aud$ per night (perhaps we're dreaming), but I thought I would ask the experts on this forum for their guideness ...

I don't live in Sydney so don't know it all that well but just try and get something near the CBD (thats where most of the exciting stuff is). If you aren't going to be hiring a car, theres heaps of busses there, and I've never had a problem getting public transport the times I've gone down there.
On the official NSW tourist site, it has an accomodation search, and a map so you can see how far places are from the CBD - http://www.visitnsw.com.au/
You should be able to find an alright place for that much as long as it isn't peak season (you're going in Feb so all should be fine

Star City Casino Hotel is in the thick if that's your kinda thing.
Sheriton on the Park is on my corporate list and is nice but might be over budget.
Vibe Hotel Milsons Poin is 1 rain stop over the Harbour Bridge from the CBD; you get to see that world famous icon verey day.
A left field option - Medina Servced Apartments on Lime Street at King Street Wharf. King Street Wharf is a relatively new pedestrian/ tourist precinct with lots of sh1t-hot eating and drinking places.
The observatory hotel??
Park Hyatt - Circular Quay??
Let me know if i can help further.

We stayed at the Intercontinental Sydney 7 or 8 years ago--a bit above your price range, but highly recommended. Across the street from the royal botanic gardens, a few blocks from circular quay, harbor bridge & the opera house, and walking distance to lots of other interesting areas of the city.
