We are having our first baby in October and my wife wants to get rid of the e60 and buy an SUV with third row seating. I am trying to convince her to hold on to the e60 a bit longer bc i love the car and i don't even know which suv i would get. Please help me in making a decision based on your experiences or taste (e60 drivers will definitely have good taste? ) The only ones that come to my mind are mdx, 4runner, lexus GX 470, pilot (boring), lr3. I am not interested in any ford or gm products. thanks in advance for your help?

One more thing. The LR3's third row seating can actually accomodate adults fairly comfortable.

Jeeps biggest SUV has only 0.1 inches more legroom in 2nd row than your E60, and 3rd row has 28.9 inches - less than the worst economy airline seats. That 330hp HEMI has got to haul around 6400lbs, while the standard V8 is only 235HP. With 3rd row seats in place, you've got a whole 6 cubic feet of luggage space.

I really wanted to like the Commander (all my previous vehicles were Jeeps)... but it just doesn't make sense - 20yr old Cherokee design upsized but not by enough. (they call it "handsomly rugged", I called it out of date and lazy). And with less "Utility" than their previous designs and competitors.

Don't even get me started on how plastic-ugly the new Nissan designs are. The power is there in all their models, but make a choice - its either boxy OR curvy - not BOTH!

Well there lies your problem. If you think your visitors are going to be happy cramped into the third row think again. The car seats will have to go in the 2nd row, which means someone is going to get stuffed in the third row

No SUV out there can match a Minivan in comfort.

Now if you are giving up your E60, don't kid yourself into thinking the SUV ride is going to be better than a Minivan.

SUV's have a purpose, i.e., hauling, cargo space and off roading. Which I doubt most people do on a regular enough basis to justify owning one.

Hate minivans, then stay away from SUV's your passengers are going to be more comfortable in the E60 than any SUV.

But if you have to get one be prepared to deal with motion sickness caused in elderly passengers who have been tossed around in the third row. ( But ofcourse if your idea is to discourage your inlaws from visiting often go ahead get the SUV with third row and stuff em in it and give em a twisty mountain ride )

Just saw Peja Stojakovic driving down the road near his house in Sacramento and he had a brand new black Porsche Cayenne Turbo. SWEEEEET.

Dude has a sweet mansion too.

I really like the new Armada though.

congrats on the new baby, bmw525i ! i totally agree with nbarco . i sat in many suvs with 3rd row seats but lr3 is by far the best ! it's even better than the bigger size ones (escalade, lx470, sequoia, etc.). you can also think about the r-class and xc90.

How bad do you want a 3rd row seat?.. if you can live without it, get a Range Rover.. BMW designed and you can tell just by sitting in one

my 06' doesn't have the BMW 4.4l but the interior is BMW all the way.. down to the hvac controls, moonroof button, everything.. my one peeve is that the Command Shift -/+ is reverse of the Steptronic's -/+ (b/c BMW flipped it on the e60)..

IMO.. the X5 is a joke and should not be labeled a BMW
