Take a look at this, the Wrightspeed X1. It's a Silicon Valley startup that built an electric powered proof of concept using an Ariel Atom chassis and some very hi tech electronics. The concept does 0 to 60 in around 3 seconds dead. Most amazing thing is if you take a look around the site there is some downloadable video, there is a 2 and half minute video discussing the X1 and showing it taking on the 360 Spyder and even the Carrera GT at the Infineon Raceway. The X1 acceleration is just mind blowing - it leaves the Ferarri for dead and even outuns the GT. Downsides in the concept seem to be limited top speed (112 mph which here in the Bay Area isn't really a downside) and limited range (it's all electric so maybe 100 miles in "normal" driving. Anyway, take a look - the acceleration on this thing is simply stunning.
