Porsche Panamera vs M3

My Ride: Retired 2008 535i Titanium-silver with sport, premium, steptronic, NAV, HUD
Retired 2006 525i
As I indicated in another thread, I'm sick of paying for the Engine Malfunction garbage again and again.
My wife wants me to buy the Porsche Panamera with 300 HP and MSRP $74000. I really can't afford the $89000 Panamera S.
I want the BMW M3 coupe with MSRP $72000.
We have a 7 and a 2 year old. My spending limit is $80000 and thats really stretching it.
Any ideas. Thanks.
BTW, I'm disappointed with the F10 550 and 535. My main issue with them is their light steering (both were the non-active steering versions).

They're totally different cars... The Panamera really competes with the 7 Series, high end MB CLS models, Maserati Quattroporte and (to a lesser degree) the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide. If it were me, I'd be loathe to get the base Panamera for two reasons: It gives up quite a bit of performance to the 400 hp S versions, and Porsche by and large expect you to drop a lot on options to get the car to a decent spec.
If I were you, I'd look hard at a pre-owned 750i , you'll get an excellent car for way less than you total budget. If you're set on a Panamera (and it is a spectacular car to drive) you might want to see if you can get a pre-owned S or 4S rather than a new base V6? The M3 is great but it's so much smaller than the other car you're considering and I'd most definitely counsel against the coupe if you have kids and they'll be in the car with any level of regularity.

And since his buget is as posted, why not consider the NEW 740?
Starting at $70,150 MSRP
3.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine
315 horsepower
matches up quite well with the base Panny.....

Why not get a CPO E60 M5? On your budget, you can afford one that is almost new. If you need room, the M3 ain't gonna cut it. Also, you might want to try the F10 550 with active steering and sport for a long test drive. A base Panamera with no options would not be deisreable to me.

And for once a couple of people even looked at me when I took it for a test drive. Yea!!!!
