I'm looking at getting a 2nd car as possibly a daily driver. I'm putting so many miles on my car since my job is almost 35 miles each way. Does anyone have any other bmws? I'm looking at getting something older <1995. Ideally I'd like to get a e30 with a possible engine swap/turbo. Something I can autocross. Any recommendations for what to look out for? I'm also looking at Porsche. I've seen some older 750IL which are V12's which would be fun to drive but I'm afraid they might break down alot.

I had a 1998 750il and although it was a very nice car it is very $ to maintain. I basically gave it away once the engine started acting up. If I were you I would just put that money into your current ride and enjoy it...after all thats what its for.

i have the same commute like you do for work and i thought about getting a DD like a honda, or something economical (i even looked at a few geo metros)but nothing compares to driving my E60 after a bad day at the office....i can decompress and enjoy it. And considering the added insurance cost, and maintenance for the 2nd car i would rather drive my E60 every day and put $$$ into it. I would think older bmw's would need a lot of maintenance and tlc.
GL in your decision.

your car would hate you if you left the "ultimate driving machine" in the garage..... your car is meant to be driven... drive it, enjoy it and replace it with a bigger badder BMW when the time comes!!

I'm a bit confused.... why would anyone want to get a commuter car and just drive the E60 on the weekends?

Life is short -- enjoy it everyday!

The whole reason I got the E60 cuz it's usable as a commuter car and family car as well.... if not, I would've
gone for a 2 seater sports car

No way in hell I'm getting a civic. You don't have to convince me the E60 will be a better car, I already know that. But it would be nice to have a turbo e30 that I could drive a couple a days a week instead of always driving my current car to keep the miles down.
