I have a (too large) bunch of MP3 files that were made in the late 90s (some might have been obtained from Napster while it was still somewhat unclear of it's legality and you even had people like Matt Lauer on the today show admitting live on TV that he downloaded files from there).
The problem with them is that they're missing lots of tag data, for example album name, year, genre etc. This makes it difficult to make quick and easy playlists. To make matters worse, I keep all my files in one folder (2095 files to be exact). So when I try and use any of the online services (or programs) that claim they can fix your MP3 tags, they just fall over claiming they don't know of any albums with 2095 tracks so it goes as undefined. The filenames are all in the format "artist - songname.mp3" and the artist and track name are all in the tags, but that doesn't seem to be enough for these services that claim to fix your files for you. I had some minor success with some program or other, but it was stupid beyond belief when it came to deciding which album a song comes from. Instead of doing the only logical thing imaginable (in my mind) which is to choose the OLDEST album on which a song can be found (i.e. the album the song was first released on), they choose the most recent album (which might be some cheapo compilation CD called something like "hits of the 80s volume 12").
Anyone know of a good service or a good program that fixes tags reliably ?

I've used Magix software for years to manage mp3's as well as ripping audio. I think they are based out of Germany so you can download their software.

Thanks for those suggestions, will be trying them out today.
I had high hopes for http://www.tidysongs.com late last night but it also failed miserably. It thought Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody for example was a 1999 song (8 years after Freddie died) and belonged on some compilation album. It also had Genre's for several songs as "Britain", "Europe" and (weirdest of all) "Emo". Not sure how Britain can be a genre of music. I bet there wasn't an American genre there. No idea whatsoever what Emo is meant to mean.
