I don't know exactly why people do it but I believe it has to do with checking on the platenumber and finding your adress to steal the car... But I bet you have a big dog that will make sure this doesn't happen..

This is my japanese Akita. They were used to hunt bears.
She will most definitely not let anyone in the house.
